Summer Ultra-Light Sleeping Bag
You don’t need a sleeping bag, but if you want a more comfortable experience, bring your own sleeping bag.
Bags
A light backpack for a change of clothes and bottle of water. Fanny pack to carry your bug-spray, money, ID, water bottle, things you need at all times.
Clothing
Kenya is tropical country with mosquitoes. The best clothing to repel heat and to protect yourself from insect bites are as close to 100% cotton, light, long-sleeved and pants, socks, and closed flat shoes, like light running sneakers. Clothing with some spandex blend may add comfort as you move around working.
If you want to protect your neck and ears, bring bandannas you can wear alone or under a hat or cap. Hats with a rim will keep the sun from directly hitting your eyes and head and will keep you much cooler. Bring clothes to change out of during the day and night, should the need arise. If you wear more open clothing, you will need to apply more bug-spray, and might get more bug bites. The decision is yours. If you are not too sure of what you prefer, you can bring a mix of both types of clothing, more covering, or more exposing. There are no malls and department stores to pick up extra clothing and sundry items.
Because you will be working, your clothes need to be comfortable to work in, and you need to be feeling your best. Leave clothes that you cannot bend in, and shoes that you cannot walk in and on dirt roads at home. If you are afraid of ruining a clothing item, it’s better to leave it at home.
If you have clothes that you want to donate, bring them and/or leave them when you return home.
